Sitatunga Resources and local stakeholders located in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality have established a stakeholder engagement platform. The purpose of the stakeholder engagement committee is to inculcate cooperation between Sitatunga and its key stakeholders within the host community.

“The Committee will serve as a platform for Sitatunga and its stakeholders to engage constructively on matters of mutual benefit and concern through the transparent communication of factual information,” explains Menar Group Social Licensing Manager Xolile Mankayi.

He notes that sustainability is of the utmost importance to the company. Therefore, it is within this context that Sitatunga has established a stakeholder engagement platform to continuously interact with in order to realize the value and remain a sustainable business that creates local employment and other economic opportunities. The stakeholders include host communities, traditional leadership, regulators, local entrepreneurs, local authorities and community-based organisations.

In August 2021, Sitatunga invited community stakeholders to a consultative meeting where a decision to establish a consolidated forum was taken. The stakeholder engagement committee will serve as a platform to share information regarding a range of issues including the implementation of programmes under the Social Labour Plan.

Menar Social Labour Plan Manager Nthabiseng Ocia Mueti notes that the mandate of the stakeholder engagement committee will focus on the following key areas:

  • prioritising employment opportunities for locals;

  • promoting community skills development and training by mobilizing local participation;

  • assisting in the identification of local economic development projects;

  • and encourage local procurement, whenever possible.
